The global agreement for combating climate change, signed in Paris last year, officially came into force on November 4th, 2016. About 200 countries are now under pressure to put into place an efficient plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The Paris Agreement sets out a global action plan to reduce the world economy dependence on fossil fuels in the second half of this century, limiting the increase in average global temperatures to below 2˚C, so that it reaches approximately the level we had before industrialization.
A recent report from the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP)reveals that the world needs to cut down on emissions of greenhouse gases by a further 12 billion to 14 billion tons by 2030.
As we already mentioned in a previous article, Maccaferri is among the big supporters of this cause. Our solutions can minimize both the environmental impact and the greenhouse gas emissions.
The use of wire mesh solutions leads to savings in terms of emissions up to 90% of the traditional solution emissions when using locally available stones: for retaining walls, the gabion solution is characterized by an emission of 58 kgCO2/m2 instead of the 665 kgCO2/m2 released with the concrete wall solution. For bank linings, Reno Mattresses are characterized by an emission of 5.4 kgCO2/m2, instead of the 29 kgCO2/m2 released with the riprap solution.
