Civil and geotechnical engineers, students and contractors gathered in Florianopolis to discover our solutions
Once again, we put our efforts in organizing our ‘Soil Nailing Workshop’. This time it took place in Florianopolis, State of Santa Catarina, on October 2nd, in partnership with the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) and the Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute for Graduate Studies and Engineering Research (COPPE-UFRJ). The event brought together more than 100 professionals from the industry, including engineers, students and contractors.
Our workshop focused on the main aspects of soil nailing solutions, such as flexible facing, slope retention and reinforcement, which are being widely used in Brazil today. In particular, we presented our MacMat® R technology, a reinforced geomat obtained by a polymer made three-dimensional extruded matrix, featured by a very high porosity (greater than 90% on average) combined with a double twisted steel woven mesh. MacMat® R is used to protect the slope face from erosion.
The program included presentations on the mapping of risky areas, history and execution of soil nailing, soil nailing to form vegetated (green) slopes and projects that used this method. Prof. Dr. Gracieli Dienstmann and Prof. Dr. Murilo Espindola from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), PhD. Anna Laura Nunes from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), PhD. Alberto Sayão from PUC-Rio, engineer Paulo Henrique Dias from SEEL, the geotechnical engineer Hudson Régis de Oliveira, and our engineer Giancarlo Domingues are the experts who shared their knowledge at our workshop.
The closing remarks were made in association with the Brazilian Association of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ABMS).
