Maccaferri won two awards in the geosythetic categories at the Milton Vargas Awards.
Following last month’s news on the Milton Vargas Award nominations, we have the following update.
Maccaferri received a Milton Vargas Award in recognition of two articles that were published in the geosynthetic sections. The project awarded in the 5th category was an article written by Maccaferri Latin America’s Technical Manager, José dos Santos Junior, on the “Use of geosynthetics in reinforcement of landfills on soft soils based on the increment of undrained resistance”. The second project awarded for the 6th category was titled “Drainage of the suspended garden of a business centre” by authors Camyla de Oliveira and Fernando Pereira – Engineers of Maccaferri Latin America.
In addition to recognising the work of participating companies and professionals, the ceremony also featured a lecture titled “Side Efforts in Stakes Submitted to Asymmetric Overloads – Studies carried out in the Work of Vila Olímpica (RJ)”. This lecture was given by the Engineer Uberescilas Fernandes Polido, from Geoconsult – Consultoria de Solos e Fundações Ltda. He presented the results obtained by means of an instrumental experimental landfill to evaluate the displacements and bending moments induced in the cuttings in Vila Olímpica (RJ).
Another highlight of the event was the launch of the 3rd edition of the book “Foundations – Theory and Practice”, published by the Brazilian Association of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ABMS). The ceremony concluded with a cocktail party that was open to all attendees.
