    The design objective of the developments landscape architect was to create an individual conspicuous landmark free standing <\/span>tower <\/span>that <\/span>was <\/span>vertical <\/span>and <\/span>over <\/span>7.0m <\/span>high. <\/span>Seven <\/span>smaller 2m <\/span>high <\/span>free <\/span>standing <\/span>structures <\/span>were <\/span>also <\/span>required <\/span>beside <\/span>the larger feature. The structures would be used to identify the entries of the proposed industrial site and to keep in line with the <\/span>theme, <\/span>a <\/span>rock <\/span>faced <\/span>structure <\/span>using <\/span>local basaltic <\/span>rock was specified.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

    Originally the obelisks were designed using a reinforced concrete core and rigid weld mesh panel facades. GroundTech Geo Supplies and Services Pty Ltd suggested a cost effective alternative <\/span>making <\/span>use <\/span>of <\/span>an <\/span>internal <\/span>steel <\/span>frame <\/span>core <\/span>and <\/span>Maccaferri double twist woven Galmac Gabions as a fa\u00e7ade. The design eliminated the concrete structure, negated the need for <\/span>a variety of specialised contractors and resulted in a 60% cost saving and significant reduced building time. When further stages were designed, the alternative woven mesh Gabion structure was adopted for construction.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
