Maccaferri will participate in the 20th International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ICSMGE 2022) to be held in Sydney, Australia, from May 1st to 5th, 2022.

ICSMGE 2022 will focus on the application of theory and the discovery that comes when world-class minds are focused on the geotechnical problems facing our world.

Maccaferri will give an online presentation of the paper “Geogrid reinforced soil walls in Myanmar: an overview”. The paper presents an overview of the trials of geogrid reinforced soil wall concept in challenging terrain and the subsequent successful implementation of seven geogrid reinforced soil walls along the India-Myanmar Friendship Highway (IMFH).

The 20th International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering will take place at the International Convention Centre in Sydney (Australia) from May 1st to May 5th, 2022.

ICSMGE 2022 will focus on the application of theory and the discovery that comes when world-class minds are focused on the geotechnical problems facing our world. The conference program and technical sessions reflect this emphasis on applications, and are designed to trigger collaboration, innovation, and discovery from a diverse group of participants.

Both virtual and in-person registrations options are possible.

Registration can be done on the Conference website through the link below

Maccaferri will participate in the conference with a virtual presentation of the paper titled “Geogrid reinforced soil walls in Myanmar: an overview”.

Myanmar is a seismically active country with mountainous terrain and high rainfall. Despite geogrid reinforced soil wall system has been widely accepted across Southeast Asia, in remote locations of Myanmar, conventional stone masonry or concrete wall systems are the preferred choices for slope failure mitigation for complex geometries and difficult terrain.

The paper presents an overview of the trials of geogrid reinforced soil wall concept in challenging terrain and the subsequent successful implementation of seven geogrid reinforced soil walls up to 16 m, along the India-Myanmar Friendship Highway (IMFH).

Maccaferri proposed the Paramesh Wall System made up of high strength ParaGrid® HF, Maccaferri Terramesh® System. MacDrain® drainage geocomposite was used at the back of the wall.

Dr. Ratnakar R. Mahajan, Technical Head of the India South East Asia (ISEAP) region at Maccaferri, will be presenting the paper.

Geofabrics Australasia Pty Ltd is the Maccaferri local distributor in Australia.
