Maccaferri’s Terramesh and ParaLink wall solution chosen by the the Al Mufrif Contracting Company

The Nomas Mountain Development project will definitely include Maccaferri’s ‘ParaMesh’ – Terramesh and ParaLink – wall solution due to its flexibility, user-friendliness and economic benefits

Maccaferri’s ‘ParaMesh’ – Terramesh and ParaLink – wall proposal was accepted by the client, the Al Mufrif Contracting Company, for the Nomas Mountain Development Project. The work is due to be completed in 2017. Construction is ongoing.

The proposed Nomas Mountain Development project is located on the northern promontory of a range of hills to the south where the top of the hill sits at an elevation of approximately 106 m above Datum (AOD) with the base of the hill being at an elevation of approximately 76m (AOD).

The project site was approximately 250 m long (east to west) and 60 m wide (north – south). A large “L” shaped building is located along the southern boundary of the site. In order to attain a flat surface area at the top of the project site for the proposed development, a series of 38 m tall retaining walls were required. Maccaferri’s Terramesh and ParaLink (‘ParaMesh’) wall system was chosen by the client, the Al Mufrif Contracting Company,  as it is flexible, easy to install and cost-efficient. The proposed ‘ParaMesh’ wall is approximately 400-500 m long and up to 38m high at junction points.

The ‘ParaMesh’ wall cross-section is an inverted trapezoid in shape to successfully insert it into the barren and rocky terrain on which it will be built, yet ensure its static and seismic stability.

A total of five different alignments were required using a variety of strengths of ParaGrid and ParaLink in conjunction with Terramesh. The project is due for completion later this year, 2017.
