Maccaferri attended and exhibited at the recent 16th European Congress on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering.
The congress was interesting as it provided practical support in the form of project studies, and also technical advances in geotechnical engineering.
This balance of practical and theoretical content drew over 1400 participants from around the world to Edinburgh in mid-September.
Pat Naughton of Institute of Technology, Sligo, Ireland, presented a new method for the design of steep slopes constructed from low-permeability fill reinforced with unique draining geogrids. The paper was written in conjunction with J.P. Giroud et al. This is an important step in the knowledge of how these poor quality fills could be used more in constrution works, instead of being discarded as waste; good for the environment!
